The Institute for Economic Growth (IEG) and the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), with support from NIHR, brought together researchers & policymakers to discuss the most pressing questions in urban healthcare at the India Habitat Centre on 22 May 2026.

At the conference, researchers, policymakers, public health practitioners, and development experts came together to examine one of India’s most pressing challenges: ensuring equitable access to health services in rapidly urbanising environments.

The discussions explored:
• Health inequities in urban India and their underlying drivers
• Health-seeking behaviour among vulnerable urban communities
• The role of financing and governance in improving health outcomes
• Urban local bodies and their contribution to health systems
• Political economy dimensions of urban health
• Innovations and policy pathways for building healthier cities
