In May 2025, Professor Mayur Trivedi from the IEG team visited the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) Shillong in Meghalaya to conduct a workshop on health economics for students. The workshop was very successful and highly appreciated by the participants.
During the trip, he along with key team members from IIPH Shillong including the Director, Dr. Sandra Albert, also met with Dr. Sampath Kumar – the Principal Secretary Health to the Government of
Meghalaya. Prof Trivedi prepared a formal presentation on the resource envelope work that is being jointly done with IEG. He requested Dr. Sampath Kumar to be a co-author of the paper, and he readily agreed.
During their meeting, they discussed the change in health outcomes in Meghalaya over the past two decades, compared to other north-eastern states. They also discussed the state of public health expenditure. The IEG team will continue to work with the Principal Secretary Health in Meghalaya to assess the state’s UHC scheme – the Megha Health Insurance Scheme.
